Defense pepper spray is a simple but hugely effective weapon in the personal security arsenal. Traditionally used by women, who often prefer self defense keychains to guns or other violent weapons, pepper sprays' main ingredient is the oil from hot peppers, called oleoresin capsicum, or OC, which temporarily blinds and otherwise incapacitates attackers. It is well know that defense pepper spray is a supremely basic yet tactically extremely powerful personal protection device. Women have known for years that pepper spray may be small enough to fit on a keychain, but when it comes to protecting themselves from assault and attack, this little canister packs a punch! Please note that pepper spray is not the same as mace; in turn, do not apply this caveat to the MACE brand of pepper spray products. Pepper spray has been found to be far more effective when dealing with assailants under the influence of intoxicants which, in some cases, appear to have counteracted the effects of the mace tear gas. Since pepper spray is extremely cheap to manufacture, the cost savings are passed on to the consumers who can ensure that their entire family is well protected with the help of an easy and convenient to carry to ounce container.
There are some restrictions that vary across the United States. For example, the state of New York requires any and all pepper spray containers to be bought within the state from a licensed weapons dealer or pharmacist; Massachusetts restricts the purchase also to only be lawful when made at a recognized arms dealer. Michigan restricts the pepper spray strength to be no more than 2% while Wisconsin has a cap of 10%. Consumers should check with law enforcement agencies in their states to verify any limitations on pepper spray ownership.
