Getting Familiar with Stun Batons
Most any consumer is familiar with the tried and true stung guns, but there are not too many that realize the punch packed by stun batons. They are small, easy to transport, and fit into a pocket. In some cases they even open and retract like telescopes, making them perfect for even smaller purses. Law enforcement personnel is already using these self protection devices in a large number of jurisdiction, but it bears mentioning that there are some municipalities where they are not legal for use by civilians.
It is interesting to note that – even as most experts agree that the overt display of self defense gadgets is a deterrent to attacks – the same does not necessarily hold true for stun batons. Perhaps it is the fact that they are so small and thus look so harmless that potential assailants have a hard time taking them serious. In other cases it may have to do with the shape of the self protection tool that makes it perfect for keeping in a shoulder holster or other device.
Personal protection experts have devised new ways of manufacturing stun guns to mimic other items and thus disguise the fact that the consumer is carrying a self defense item. In this manner the technology is using the industrial advances that have served well in the case of disguising pepper spray containers. Stun guns now are also designed to look like pagers or in some cases like cell phones. The advantage of stun guns is the fact that they work in close quarters; what makes stun batons useful tools is the fact that they can keep an attacker at arm's length.
