Familiarizing Yourself with Stun Guns and Batons

When it comes to up close and personal protection, stun guns and batons are without equal. In most states there is legal problem with buying and carrying a stun baton or a stun. In simplest terms, these devices use battery power to harness a high voltage charge which is then unleashed on an attacker.

The best way to use a stun gun or a stun baton is to simply push the two prongs toward the assailant, make contact, and maintain this contact for about three seconds. As the electric shock is discharged into the assailant’s body, the voltage interferes with the electrical impulses the brain sends to the person’s muscles.

This results in the sudden collapse of the stunned attacker. Temporarily without muscle control, the intended victim now has the opportunity to vacate the area, and also contact law enforcement. In spite of the powerful charge these devices generate, they are actually quite small. Stun batons in particular can be so small that they easily fit into a pocket.

Law enforcement have long since caught on to the fact that non lethal means of incapacitating a potential assailant are much preferred to bullets, which can cause injuries and even deaths among innocent bystanders. Stun guns and batons have the advantage of not harming the attacker, but only temporarily leaving him (or her) incapable of continuing the attack.
